National Group That Put Brakes on Boehner's Immigration Reform Push Issues Statement

WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With reports coming in that Speaker John Boehner is retreating from his push to pass immigration reform legislation that would contain a form of amnesty for illegal immigrants, a national group that played a strong role in stopping Boehner is issuing a response statement today.

Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) directed activists to bombard Boehner and his amnesty-supporting allies in Congress with calls in opposition this week including an effort to circulate social media pictures of Boehner and Obama together that called for activists to "Stop Boehner from passing amnesty for Obama!" ALIPAC helped stop the amnesty push by encouraging GOP primary challengers to file against Boehner's faction while tying GOP members of Congress to Obama's actions across the board.

"John Boehner made a huge tactical mistake trying to push amnesty for illegals in the middle of the primary filing period which has spawned a backlash that stopped his amnesty push and that now threatens to remove many members of his faction from office," said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. "Now that Boehner is retreating from his effort to pass amnesty for Obama, we intend to pursue his faction of 35 GOP sellouts with the momentum we have from the backlash.
