National Hospice Foundation Gala to Honor the Past and Cultivate the Future
Annual Gala will Salute Hospice Founders
ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Hospice Foundation will hold its sixth annual gala on Friday, April 23, 2010, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. Recognizing that the ideal way to grow the future is to sow seeds of the past, The Founders Ball will salute the rich history of hospice and palliative care through the people who made it possible. Morton Kondracke, Executive Editor of Roll Call, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
This year's gala honorees include the late Senator Edward Kennedy. He was not only dedicated to improving healthcare for all people but also played a significant role in developing policy that ensured accessible, affordable hospice care in the United States. Last year, more than 1.45 million patients were served by our nation's hospices.
In addition, special honor will be given to the individuals who launched the National Hospice Foundation with personal contributions in the early '90s. Named for one of their generous co-founders, the Steven P.J. Wood Founding Philanthropists are Joan Barovick, Janet Dolan, Paul (posthumous) and June Ebensteiner, William Griffith, Mrs. Henry Kimelman, Sara Jo Kobacker, Zachary Morfogen, Elizabeth Ross and Ann Vickery.
"The National Hospice Foundation is thrilled to honor the vision of those whose generosity conceived a charitable organization advancing quality end-of-life care," said J. Donald Schumacher, president of NHF. "And Senator Kennedy... his legacy is the future of healthcare and hospice care."
"We are also very excited to have the support of this year's Honorary Chair, Maya Soetoro-Ng. Through her grandmother's care, Dr. Soetoro-Ng and her brother, President Barack Obama, witnessed firsthand the compassion and dignity hospice provides patients, and the comfort offered to family members. The very qualities NHF embraces in its mission."
The Founders Ball will include dinner, dancing and a silent auction featuring "Vintners, Ventures and Vintage." The evening kicks-off with a cocktail reception hosted by Lotus Sponsor Hospice Pharmacia. Other event partners include Suncoast Solutions, Odyssey Healthcare, Capitol File magazine and Veritas Vineyard & Winery.
Reservations for the black-tie gala are now being accepted, with individual prices ranging from $250 to $750. Table sponsorships are available starting at $5,000. For more information, visit www.nationalhospicefoundation.org, or call 703-516-4928.
