New designation helps inform the public based on sleep science, standards, and evidence
WASHINGTON, Oct. 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- National Sleep Foundation (NSF), in its fourth decade as the public's leading independent sleep health resource, today announced the launch of SleepMark™, a designation program to help the public identify consumer products that align with science-backed principles, published standards, and evidence-based consensus guidelines and recommendations NSF uses to educate about sleep.
Importantly, and in response to queries from consumers and industry, NSF is launching SleepMark™ to provide a meaningful context that can help people make informed choices about sleep-related goods and services.
"The size and speed of growth in the sleep market can leave consumers overwhelmed or skeptical. In the public interest, we encourage any product or service claiming to help sleep to align with the principles we teach," said John Lopos, CEO of National Sleep Foundation. "Still, we understand there are going to be several products that haven't yet met or won't meet the criteria we've set to achieve this designation."
SleepMark™ reflects NSF's 35-year commitment to educating about the importance of sleep for health and well-being, and to help anyone and everyone be their Best Slept Self®. The SleepMark™ designation program is not intended to certify manufacturers' claimed product features and benefits, nor warranty performance claims or user outcomes made by product manufacturers. NSF evaluates applicants' submissions against objective criteria based on valid sleep use cases, its own authoritative publications, and data provided by applicants, where needed. SleepMark™ recipients attest they have designed, evaluated, documented, and can support their product claims to meet program criteria. Designees also will share NSF's educational messaging to help advance its mission.
