WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- ZERO Prostate Cancer (ZERO), the nation's leading prostate cancer nonprofit, today announced that Tony Perkins, Emmy Award–winning journalist, prostate cancer survivor, and longtime NBC4 Washington news anchor, has joined the organization as its newest Ambassador.
Founded in 1996, ZERO Prostate Cancer has spent 30 years advancing advocacy, awareness, education, and support for patients and families affected by prostate cancer. The second most common cancer among American men, it's a disease ZERO is fighting through programs and services that improve early detection, expand treatment options, and support long-term survival and health, ensuring no man faces it alone.
"Tony brings a rare combination of authenticity, heart, and journalistic integrity to this work," said Courtney Bugler, President & CEO of ZERO Prostate Cancer. "His personal experience with prostate cancer, paired with his deep roots in the DC community, makes him an incredibly powerful voice for early detection and health equity. We are honored to have him join ZERO as an Ambassador."
Perkins has already made a significant contribution to ZERO's work. This past summer, he emceed ZERO's health equity initiative, Blitz the Barriers, aimed at breaking down barriers to prostate cancer screening and care, in Baltimore, alongside Mayor Brandon Scott. His presence energized the crowd and elevated the conversation around early detection and health equity in underserved communities.
"As a journalist, I've spent decades telling the stories of this community. Now I have a personal story to tell, and a responsibility to use my platform to make sure more men get screened, get informed, and get the support they need. I'm proud to stand with ZERO in that mission," said Tony Perkins.
On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Perkins will serve as the official emcee for the ZERO Run/Walk in Washington, D.C., one of the nation's premier events for the prostate cancer community. The event brings together survivors, caregivers, families, and advocates to raise funds and awareness for ZERO's life-saving programs.
Perkins joins fellow ZERO Ambassadors NBA Assistant Coach Moses Ehambe and Netflix star Ricco Ross in using their platforms to drive national awareness for the prostate cancer community.
