NCOA Awards Recognize National Leadership in Aging

Annual Awards Presented at Largest Yearly Gathering of Aging Professionals

WASHINGTON, March 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Council on Aging (NCOA) will present its annual Leadership Awards at the 2012 ASA Aging in America Conference, March 28-April 1, in Washington, D.C.

NCOA is one of the featured collaborative organizations at the event, which is the nation's largest gathering of professionals from the fields of aging, health care, and education.

NCOA's special awards ceremony will be held on March 30 from 6-7 p.m. The distinguished recipients of this year's awards are:

• Christine Beatty from Madison Senior Center, Madison, WI, who will receive the Geneva Mathiasen Award for major contributions to NCOA and its programs as part of her work with NCOA's National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC).
• The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust from Phoenix, AZ, which will receive the Arthur Flemming Award for establishing powerful partnerships that build bridges between the public and private sector so that older adults are better able to weather the hazards and vicissitudes of life.
• Dr. Kate Lorig of Stanford University, who will receive the Jack Ossofsky Award for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP), which epitomizes the achievement of taking a creative, new idea and developing it into a successful program, service, or policy that helps older people achieve vital aging.
• Carter Cattlett Williams and T. Franklin Williams (posthumously) of Rochester, NY, who will receive the Claude Pepper Award for their pioneering vision and excellence in community-based long-term care over the last 50+ years.
