This year's celebration theme is: It Happens at My Senior Center. My Life. My Time. My Way. Senior centers around the country are using this opportunity to empower older adults to tell their story and the important role that senior centers play in their lives and communities.
For 41 years, NISC has been known as a dynamic network for senior center professionals who help to create opportunities for successful aging. NISC offers the nation's only Senior Center Accreditation Program, which serves as a guide for all senior centers to improve their operations and the quality of senior centers nationwide.
In honor of Senior Center Month this September, NISC is offering senior centers tips, ideas, and resources to help them promote their programs and services. These materials, including a Program Guide on how your senior center can celebrate, are available online here.
"Senior centers serve as the front door for millions of older Americans who are looking for ways to stay healthy, independent, and engaged in their communities," said Stuart Spector, senior vice president, National Council on Aging. "By encouraging participants to live life 'their way,' senior centers empower and support older adults."
