Since generative AI was introduced to the general public in 2022, colleges and universities have grappled with the appropriate way to approach its use on campus. Many institutions have opted to ban AI or police its utilization in the name of academic integrity, an approach that reveals little about what students are learning and leaves graduates without practice using tools they will encounter at work. More than one-third of entry-level jobs require AI skills, but only 28% of college graduates from the Class of 2026 said their institution intentionally taught them how to use AI. The assignments are deliberately designed to challenge students to carefully evaluate, verify, revise, and push back on AI output. Draft history, transcripts, prompt logs, and student reflections are then aggregated for instructors in a "show your work" dashboard, which shows them how each student reasoned through the work. That record of the learning process is something a finished essay alone can't provide, and it helps instructors see where a student's understanding is strong and where they need extra support.
