New book recognizes Deupree Cottages nursing care community in Hyde Park among the best in senior care design
CINCINNATI, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Deupree Cottages, a community of Episcopal Retirement Homes, a state-of-the-art nursing care center on the Deupree House campus in Hyde Park, are featured in a new book about senior living architectural and program designs best practices from around the world.
The book, Design for Aging: International Case Studies of Building and Program, cites Deupree Cottages among those with "excellent aged-care environments." The book devotes an entire chapter to the Cottages and their innovative design, architectural challenges, and the non-traditional Person-Centered Care.
Located on Erie Avenue just east of the Hyde Park Country Club, the Cottages are among just six American communities from across the United States to be included in the book. Other communities represented are located in Australia, Japan, Sweden, Holland, Denmark and the United Kingdom. The chapter on Deupree Cottages covers the physical innovations of the households and the cutting edge innovations in resident care.
"It's about openness and functionality so residents can live with as much independence as possible," said Laura Lamb, vice president of Residential Housing and Healthcare for Episcopal Retirement Homes (ERH) , which owns and operates Deupree Cottages. "Each has 12 private rooms – including their own bathrooms – that open into a large living room, dining room and kitchen. Versatile workers provide many aspects of resident care from preparing meals to creating activities."
"But what really sets Deupree Cottages – and all of our communities – apart is our Person-Centered Care philosophy. In addition to providing the best medical care, it's all about listening to residents and respecting their wishes for how they live each day. They are in charge. If a resident wants pancakes for dinner, that's what he or she gets. If someone usually sleeps in and has a late breakfast around 10 or 11 in the morning, that's their prerogative."
Opened in 2009, Deupree Cottages are comprised of two households: Craftsman Cottage and Colonial Cottage. Doug Spitler, CEO for ERH stated, "We are proud to be included in this book describing some of the best senior living communities in the world. It is very rewarding that our years of planning and hard work has resulted in the Deupree Cottages being recognized as a world class skilled nursing care center located right here in Cincinnati."
