New Course Record for Esimit Europa 2 at the Spectacular Barcolana Regatta

TRIESTE, Italy, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ --- Esimit Europa 2 won the 42nd Barcolana regatta among the 1852 entrants and thousands of spectators and set a new record time of 56 minutes and 13 seconds on the 16.8-mile long course. Owner of the yacht, Igor Simcic, and his all-star crew started off perfectly and soon took the lead, sailing on average at about 15 knots. The yacht's glorious victory in fantastic atmosphere in Trieste was very well deserved -- the experienced team prepared great tactics and did their best to maximize the European yacht's performance. The team's success was endorsed by a crowd of a few hundred people at the Barcolana Village, which included top executives from leading European energy companies, such as Gazprom, Wintershall, Enel and Edison, who were invited to Trieste by the Esimit Europa project and its main sponsor Gazprom.

"First of all, I have to say that I am very happy about today's record. It has a special meaning for me, because my first racing steps in sailing were made right here at the Barcolana regatta. I was completely confident in our yacht and crew, which picked the right starting position and chose appropriate tactics for the current wind conditions. Consequently, we never questioned our victory at any stage of the regatta," said Igor Simcic, the yacht's owner and general manager of the project.

The last event on the schedule of Esimit Europa 2 for this season is the 606-mile offshore Rolex Middle Sea Race, which will start in Grand Harbour in Malta on 23 October. As one of the most demanding and competitive regattas in the Mediterranean, it will guarantee a unique experience for the yacht as well as for the 24-member crew.
