New Jersey 3rd Annual 5K Run for Jenni to Benefit Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer

MARLBORO TOWNSHIP, N.J., Oct. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- For the third year in a row, event co-chairs Nicole Woodward and Keri Lippman are organizing a 5K run/walk on Sunday, October 20, at Marlboro High School. The event will honor Nicole's childhood friend, Jennifer Zambrana, who passed away from stomach cancer when she was only 28 years old and will benefit Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer.

The 5K run will start at 9 a.m. and the entry fee is $15 per person. Participants can pay an entry fee of $25 to receive a dri-fit shirt and five raffle tickets, an entry fee of $20 to receive a dri-fit shirt, or $10 for additional tickets or five raffle tickets. Friends and family are welcome to attend the event and support the participants.

Nicole and Keri hope this event makes a difference for other stomach cancer patients in Jennifer's memory, while raising awareness and money for Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer.  Debra Zelman founded the organization in 2009 after being diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer. Debbie's Dream Foundation seeks as its ultimate goal to make the cure for stomach cancer a reality. Donations can be made at any time through Nicole or on the Debbie's Dream Foundation website.

"Jenni's battle with stomach cancer was a long one, but she fought harder every day and never gave up," said Nicole Woodward, event co-chair. "It's such an amazing feeling to chair this wonderful tribute for Jenni, and I'm glad we have the opportunity to organize the event again this year."

Awareness of stomach cancer, symptoms and risk factors remains low, despite the fact that this type of cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men and fourth among women worldwide. Event participants encourage people to spread the word about early detection and screening because if someone is diagnosed at an early stage, the chances of being cured dramatically increase.
