New Jersey Plastic Surgery Center Raises Over $7,000 for Alzheimer's Research & Education

PARAMUS, N.J., July 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Alzheimer's disease affects 1 in 10 people over aged 65 in the U.S., causing progressive loss of memory and brain function. It can be devastating for both sufferers and their families, who often feel helpless as their loved one slowly deteriorates. Currently, there is no cure for Alzheimer's, but plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Parker and the staff at the Parker Center for Plastic Surgery are doing their part to help change this.

The Paramus plastic surgery practice recently held their annual Free Treatment Day fundraiser, offering free skincare and medi-spa treatments in exchange for a donation to Alzheimer's New Jersey, a nonprofit organization that provides care and support for New Jersey families affected by Alzheimer's disease and funds research toward a cure.

2017 marked the fourth year that the Parker Center held the free treatment day fundraiser. Dr. Parker, who is medical director of the Parker Center, says the event was one of their most successful to date—they raised more than $7,000 in donations. He comments:

"Over my 35 years in practice, I have seen many of my own patients and staff impacted by Alzheimer's, either directly or as a caretaker of a family member with the disease. Alzheimer's New Jersey has been an invaluable resource for these people, providing care, support, and education. We are proud to contribute to their efforts to improve treatment options and ultimately develop a cure."

Parker Center Medi-Spa staff volunteered their time and skills for the Free Treatment Day

During the one-day event, the Parker Center Medi-Spa team of licensed aestheticians, nurses, and massage therapists at, led by nurse coordinator and injector Angela Parisi, RN, provided free BOTOX and filler injections, laser treatments, facials, massage and more.

In exchange, patients were asked to give a donation to Alzheimer's New Jersey totalling no less than 50% of the regular price of the treatment they received. The Parker Center also held a raffle for a free HALO laser skin resurfacing treatment, plus other prizes, to raise additional funds for Alzheimer's New Jersey. Parisi says the event was a rousing success, with treatment slots booking up well in advance.

"We expected the free treatment event to fill up, as it has in past years. However, we were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and enthusiasm from our patients—including those who were not able to attend—who gave so generously to the cause. It's thanks to them, as well as our wonderful staff at the Parker Center, that we were able to present such a great amount to Alzheimer's New Jersey," states Parisi.

Dr. Parker mentions that the Free Treatment Day fundraiser is only one way they contribute to Alzheimer's New Jersey. "Over the last four years, the Parker Center has increased our involvement with Alzheimer's New Jersey. In addition to the June fundraiser, we also had several staff members participate in the Walk to Fight Alzheimer's last October, as well as attend the Music & Memories Annual Gala in April."
