New Novel Explores the Supernatural Origins of Mythical Monsters
Author blends World War II history, theology and speculative fiction to launch 11-part series
CALGARY, AB, Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- In a fictional universe where mythological creatures such as vampires, demons and werewolves originated from biblical Fallen Angels who devolved over the ages, humanity faces an unseen, ancient threat.
In "The Absolution of Salem," by Byron Osing, a dying World War II veteran and retired homicide detective whose suppressed wartime memories are unlocked by an ancient Fallen Angel living inside a vampire's body. After securing his spiritual salvation, his consciousness is brought forward to the year 2022 and fused into the cryogenically preserved body of a Navy SEAL, creating a soulless, uniquely skilled supernatural assassin and deadly warrior hunting dark forces across parallel Realms.
"The character building and the relationships that develop between the characters is a core aspect of the series," said Osing. "Each has their own deep backstory. Each character is flawed in various ways. Each character knows that loneliness is the greatest enemy of the immortal or long-lived supernatural."
Osing was inspired to write the novel following emergency life-saving surgery in an ICU recovery room on Halloween. After witnessing young children in costumes visiting the hospital, he questioned where legendary monsters might originate from a realistic standpoint. He concluded that biblical Fallen Angels devolved over time into the monsters of modern lore due to their deep hatred for humanity after the Fall.
"My hope is that the series becomes completely 'immersive' for readers," said Osing. "That they can be taken away in their minds to a place that excites them to follow."
