NEW REPORT HIGHLIGHTS CRITICAL ROLE OF FAIRS AND FAIRGROUNDS IN EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE GLOBE
Comprehensive survey results underscore the value of fairgrounds' space infrastructure and accessibility vital for communities before, during, and after emergencies
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Oct. 20, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) shared detailed information on the overall global community impact of fairs and fairgrounds, including their critical role in emergency planning and preparedness during crises. The results of the 2026 IAFE Community Impact Survey, the first industry-wide data initiative to quantify the services these facilities provide, underscore the vital civic services fairgrounds provide year-round.
"Fairgrounds across North America are known for fun and entertainment, but they are year-round community assets that serve as hubs for emergency preparedness, community events, and countless other activities long after fair week has passed," said David Grindle, President and CEO of IAFE. "IAFE is honored to show the impact our fairs and fairgrounds have on non-profits, youth development, education, and communities' emergency management infrastructure. Fairgrounds are assets supporting their communities through the best and worst of times."
How the data was collected: Industry estimates were calculated using responses from 501 fairs. The sample size and distribution of respondents by fair size provide a statistically representative basis for estimating industry-wide impact across approximately 5,000 fairs in the United States, Canada, and Australia. After collecting data, the next step was analysis and compilation conducted by IAFE. The survey results provide valuable insight into how fairs strengthen communities.
