New Report: More Than 60% of Reported Perils in Electronics Claims Were Inaccurate

StrikeCheck 2024 Annual Claims Report highlights the importance of cause of loss verification

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Electronics and electrically powered specialty items that were included in property claims assigned to a leading national assessment company in 2024 didn't sustain damage from the reported cause of loss 61% of the time. Not only did more than half have an inaccurate reported cause of loss, 29% of electronics were determined to be in proper working order at the time of assessment. These are some of the many key findings included in the new StrikeCheck 2024 Annual Claims Report, which provides insurance professionals with an inside look at the data, trends, and insights about claimed electronics, the perils that impacted them, and more.

Among the analyses are items frequently included in claims, repair and replacement cost comparisons, and breakdowns of specific perils, including high voltage surge, water, and wear and tear. Special sections about appliances, consumer electronics, electrical service panels, water heaters, and solar power equipment show how the nearly 400 different types of electrically powered equipment StrikeCheck evaluated can affect policyholders and wind up in claims.
