New Trade Magazine Will Serve the Plastics Machinery and Equipment Markets

WASHINGTON, June 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A new trade publication covering innovation and new equipment for the plastics processing industry will debut in both print and digital format November 2014, announced SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association. Plastics Machinery Magazine will begin regular monthly print and digital circulation in January 2015 by Peninsula Publishing LLC, a new employee-owned, Ohio-based publishing company. All companies with membership in SPI will receive discounted rates.

SPI President & CEO William R. Carteaux said the trade association values its working relationships with all trade media, and building a new relationship with Plastics Machinery Magazine will be important going forward. "The new trade publication will help fill the need for more information on the nearly $2 billion U.S. machinery and auxiliary equipment markets -- especially as we approach NPE2015," he said.

The new employee-owned magazine will be produced by a group of plastics industry publishing veterans, including Peninsula's President J.A. Lewellen and Publisher Tony Eagan.

"We are very comfortable and excited to be working with the new PMM team," Carteaux said. "We've known many of them for years from their previous positions with various industry publications. This relationship will open up many opportunities for SPI and the plastics industry. In addition, discounted advertising rates in PMM will be extended to all our SPI member companies."

The PMM staff has a combined 250 years of experience in the plastics industry and has responsibility for all editorial, sales, circulation and production. 

"Plastics processors are under continual pressure to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and control costs – all while adding value for their customers," Eagan said. "PMM will focus on how new developments in machinery and equipment can help plastics processors achieve those goals.

T. Peter Sullivan, well-known for his successful launch of Injection Molding Magazine and leadership of Plastics Machinery & Equipment, is a co-owner and advisor with the company. "Since Plastics Machinery & Equipment ceased publishing in 1994, there has been a void in this market for a machinery-focused publication," Sullivan said. "PMM will deliver critical information on advancements in machinery, equipment and manufacturing technologies that processors want and need to make smart purchasing decisions." 

Ron Shinn, a plastics industry veteran with more than 35 years of publishing experience, will serve as editorial director.  Angie DeRosa joins as managing editor and will work closely with Lisa Sarkis and Marvin Brown to design and edit content seen by readers in print and online each month.

"Our goal is to give plastics processors information they need about the latest equipment available today and what may be coming soon," said Shinn.  "We will focus on the primary, auxiliary, tooling systems and other manufacturing equipment technologies that are used by plastics processors around the world. Articles will be concisely written to appeal to everyone in the purchasing decision chain."

The commercial team will include industry veterans Mark Malloy and Jeff Williams.  Malloy will serve as business development and marketing director while covering the Midwest and West Coast sales territory.  Williams will represent PMM in the New England states.
