LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y., Jan. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Amrik and Parminder Minhas are not only cousins, but they have been neighbors for the last 20 years and became business partners one year ago.
Now they are U-Haul neighborhood dealers at Gulf Gas & Store on Long Island.
Gulf Gas & Store at 3904 Skillman Ave. offers U-Haul trucks, trailers and towing equipment, support rental items and in-store pick-up for boxes. Reserve U-Haul items at Gulf Gas & Store by visiting http://www.uhaul.com/Locations/Truck-Rentals-near-Long-Island-City-NY or calling (718) 937-1629 today.
The store is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Gulf Gas & Store is stationed between the commercial and residential areas in Long Island City on the primary road that leads to the Queens Burrow Bridge, so the Minhas' customer base isn't always local.
Amrik was a mechanic for 17 years before this new business venture. Parminder drove a New York City taxi for 25 years.
"We get to work for ourselves," Parminder said. "It's quite a change from what we were doing before, but so far it has been working great."
Once Gulf Gas & Store opened its doors, the cousins had customers asking for directions to the nearest U-Haul® neighborhood dealer. After several months of those inquiries, they opted to add U-Haul equipment and moving supplies to their lot.
Amrik and Parminder live in Queens Village and are very active in the Queens and Long Island City communities. They also are prominent members of New York's Sikh community. As chairman of the local religious sector, Amrik works with members to plan events like children's soccer tournaments and potluck dinners. Parminder is president of the local organization.
With such a strong voice in the Sikh community, Gulf Gas & Store is known around town. But Gulf Gas & Store does more than just serve the Sikh community, and that's evident every time a U-Haul trailer crosses the Queens Burrow Bridge.
Gulf Gas & Store is a great place to become U-Haul Famous. Take your picture in front of a U-Haul product, send it in and your face could land on the side of a U-Haul truck. Upload your photo through Instagram using #uhaulfamous, or go to www.uhaulfamous.com to submit photos and learn more.
