New Yorkers Cool Off With Free Shade, Seating, and Water Courtesy of Centers for Specialty Care Group Rehab Centers in NYC

NEW YORK, July 17, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Staff members of the Centers for Specialty Care Group nursing home therapy consortium abruptly left their desks this morning to bring New York City residents a much-needed reprieve from the devastating summer heat by setting up three cooling stations open to all. The staff at Centers (http://www.CFSCGOnline.com) has equipped each station with a tent, chairs, and free water to offer New Yorkers, and seniors in particular, the chance to cool off and rehydrate.

The cooling stations are located at the TKTS Discount Booth on 47th Street and Broadway in Times Square; Union Square; and Central Library at Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza.

"In bustling New York City, temperatures in the nineties and above are at best inconvenient and at worst pose a risk to public health. After experiencing the scorching heating this morning ourselves, the Centers for Specialty Care Group team was eager to work together to provide relief to the community," said Jason Y. Hot summer temperatures put senior citizens particularly at risk, Newman notes, as they are more vulnerable to developing hyperthermia, a condition where, after being exposed to high temperatures, the body becomes unable to regulate its core temperature. Symptoms of hyperthermia include heat stroke, dizziness, cramping, and fatigue, but keeping cool, staying hydrated, and avoiding strenuous physical activity can help to beat the heat and reduce the risk of developing the condition.
