NEWS FROM THE NAIAS: CCS Joined with Corporate Partners and Featured Designs of the Future During 2011 North American International Auto Show Preview Week
DETROIT, Jan. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- College for Creative Studies (CCS), the leading art and design college in Detroit, joined with corporate partners past and present as a participant during Preview Week at the 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). This year's CCS display located within the NAIAS showroom features ten innovative models from up and coming Transportation Design stars.
"We have a long history of partnering with leaders in the automotive industry," says Richard L. Rogers, president of CCS. "General Motors played the pivotal role in helping us expand our campus when we developed the former Argonaut Building into the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design. Toyota funds our design lecture series each year and our students regularly partner with Chrysler, Michelin, ArvinMeritor and WTSI/Tardec as part of our Sponsored Projects program. Most of these companies are represented at NAIAS."
Annually, through sponsored research projects, corporate partners present current industry design challenges for use in curricula and allow the students to participate in conceptual projects and studios. Students execute creative, research-based assignments within real-world design parameters. Student displays at NAIAS represented projects undertaken with General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, American Chemistry Council, Honda, and WTSI/Tardec. Most of the students are enrolled as CCS Transportation Design or Industrial Design majors.

"The effort between students and industry was showcased in venues throughout metro Detroit during Preview Week. At NAIAS, our students were recognized for their efforts during the Michelin Design challenge. Many companies reviewed Student Portfolios on the Taubman Campus. Student models were featured at Chrysler's "A Night Designed to Remembered" and the Autoweek Design Forums. Student renderings are still on display throughout the Detroit Athletic Club," says Larry Erickson, chair of Transportation Design.
