Nonprofit Colleges Online Releases Ranking of Online Bachelor's Programs in Education Putting "Students before Profits"

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Nonprofit Colleges Online (http://www.nonprofitcollegesonline.com), an online publication promoting non-profit colleges and universities that offer online degree programs, has published another ranking of its "Students before Profits Award" winners, this time for online bachelor's degrees in education. 

The Students before Profits Award rankings were created to highlight nonprofit colleges and universities that offer quality online programs of study at an affordable price. The series is, in part, an attempt to counteract the bad publicity that has recently come to surround online education that is created by the exploitative practices of for-profit online education companies. 

The Students before Profits Award for online bachelor's in education programs ranks thirty regionally accredited colleges and universities that offer fully online, or bachelor's degree completion programs in education. To qualify for the award, in addition to regional accreditation, schools must be hold nonprofit status and have objectively lower-than-average tuition rates. 

According to Brett Gershon, lead editor for the ranking, "Online bachelor's programs in education are relatively rare, and for-profit schools tend to dominate in terms of marketing. We hope this award will draw attention to some of the lesser known, but high quality and affordable nonprofit options available to prospective education students."

Stephen F. Austin State University holds the number one position in this ranking, with the University of Washington and Southern Oregon University coming in second and third.
