Nonprofit Organization Girls on the Run International Adds Three Notable Women to Its Board of Directors
CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The nonprofit organization Girls on the Run International announces the addition of three new members to its national Board of Directors this month: Missy Denja Maher, Holly Ramer and Juli Marley.
Says Girls on the Run CEO, Elizabeth Kunz, "We are so fortunate to have each of these women joining our board. Their professional expertise will be invaluable, and they are each committed to empowering girls and women. Through their service, they will strengthen our organization's ability to inspire more girls to live joyful, healthy and confident lives."
Girls on the Run is a physical-activity based positive youth development program that empowers girls in the 3rd – 8th grade with life skills to navigate their world confidently and unleash their limitless potential. Through lessons that creatively integrate running, girls in the program learn that their worth comes from within, that healthy relationships matter and that they be leaders in their community.
Missy Denja Maher is the Executive Vice President for the public relations agency ZENO Group within the noted public relations and communications firm of Daniel J. Edleman. Maher has more than twenty years' experience in creative ideation, strategic thinking and account oversight. Key clients have included Kraft, True Value, Butterball, The American Egg Board and Kimberly Clark.
Says Maher, "It is always exciting to be involved in an organization that is experiencing growth because of what it offers and what it brings to the world. If you look at companies that are making a mark today, like Girls on the Run, their brand is based on good and moving good forward."
Holly Ramer is the Director of Strategy for North America and Latin America at Converse. Ramer has twenty years' experience in consumer marketing and strategy with a specific focus on active lifestyles. She also has a decade of experience advising and volunteering with non-profits.
"I have a deep, lifelong commitment to the power of athletics to drive personal transformation," says Ramer. "This is why I believe in the power of Girls on the Run and why I'm excited to serve on the board."
Juli Marley is a Partner at Blue Point Capital Partners, a national private equity firm. She has nearly thirty years' experience in the financial industry with more than eighteen years' focus in private equity. In addition, she has been involved with Girls on the Run over the past fourteen years as a coach, a fundraiser and a financial contributor.
Says Marley, "I am thrilled to join the board to further support Girls on the Run's mission and growth!"
These additions to Girls on the Run International's board come as the organization celebrates serving its one-millionth girl this spring. The organization is marking the occasion with a One in a Million campaign, featuring the One-in-a-Million Challenge where people post a photo or story of someone they believe is one in a million and challenge that person to do the same for someone else, creating a chain of affirmation while raising awareness and funds for Girls on the Run.
Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident, using a fun experienced-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. www.girlsontherun.org
