Norm Ai joins Stanford's Center for Legal Informatics (CodeX)
NEW YORK, Aug. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Norm Ai, the leading company at the intersection of AI and regulatory law, announced today that it joined Stanford University's CodeX center (a collaboration between Stanford Law School and the Department of Computer Sciences) as a corporate affiliate member. Membership will allow Norm Ai to participate in and provide an industry perspective for CodeX's research agenda on legal and compliance topics related to AI agents.
A legacy of research at the intersection of computation and law
For over two decades, CodeX has been an interdisciplinary hub for researchers, lawyers, entrepreneurs and technologists to work side-by-side to advance the frontier of legal technology. Sitting between Stanford's law school and computer science department, CodeX aims to leverage computational methods to increase the efficiency, transparency, and access for legal systems around the world.
New AI tools promise to provide new ways for lawyers, courts, companies, and individuals to leverage technology in different legal contexts. At the same time, this innovation creates a pressing need not only for regulating AI but also for understanding how increasingly autonomous and capable AI agents will navigate existing legal frameworks. "Norm Ai's participation in CodeX's affiliate program will provide us with a unique perspective from a leader at the forefront of legal AI as we advance our research in this critical domain," said Roland Vogl, Executive Director of CodeX.
CodeX is focused on these practice-oriented research questions and seeks to bring together technical talent at Stanford to develop new research insights and technical solutions that contribute to the responsible deployment of AI. CodeX is also investigating frameworks for democratically determined guardrails for AI agents. "Norm Ai is a commercial pioneer at the dynamic intersection of rigorous legal thought and cutting-edge AI innovation. Stanford's CodeX is an academic pioneer at the same intersection, making it the ideal environment for fostering this unique synergy," says John Nay, Founder and CEO of Norm Ai and a longtime Research Affiliate at Stanford CodeX.
CodeX's corporate affiliate program provides a unique opportunity for organizations working at the intersection of law, governance, and technology to help advance the boundaries of legal innovation. "Norm Ai's clients face some of the most demanding regulatory obligations worldwide. Working with researchers at CodeX will help us balance innovations in AI agents with the practical realities of legal frameworks", said Patrick Vergara, Norm Ai COO and Stanford Law School graduate.
