The Oregon Consortium of Nursing Education transforms information sharing to streamline education and connect faculty, nurses and students through collaboration
LAS VEGAS, March 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- JiveWorld16 -- Jive Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: JIVE) today announced that the Oregon Consortium of Nursing Education (OCNE) selected the Jive for Healthcare Collaboration solution to improve nursing education across university and college campuses, and help address the staggering nursing shortage the U.S. is facing. Oregon was the first state to implement a statewide, multi-campus consortium approach for nursing education, and OCNE's collaborative online community is the first of its kind.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, by 2022, total nursing employment will increase by 19 percent, creating demand for 1.05 million newly trained nurses. With the average age of nursing faculty currently over 57, and with 50 percent considering retirement in the next five to 10 years, the national healthcare system anticipates an impending nursing crisis. The imminent nursing faculty shortage may prohibit programs from sustaining current enrollments, let alone increase the number of students in the pipeline that need to be trained. New innovative means are required to prepare nursing faculty who can enhance and accelerate education for new nurses. OCNE is addressing this crisis in Oregon by connecting 10 community colleges and universities to develop and share curriculum. While the consortium meets in person at monthly or quarterly meetings, they previously didn't have the means to keep the dialogue going outside of ad hoc email and phone calls in between events.
