OfferUp Partners With Giant Eagle To Add 91 Supermarket Locations To America's Largest Network Of Community MeetUp Spots

SEATTLE, Sept. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- OfferUp™, the largest mobile marketplace in the U.S. for local buying and selling, and supermarket retailer Giant Eagle, Inc. today announced a partnership that will make it easier for customers in the Northeast to find secure locations for meeting and exchanging items. Starting today, OfferUp customers that buy or sell items within the company's mobile app can select one of 91 nearby Giant Eagle, Market District, and GetGo locations as a designated Community MeetUp Spot, where they can complete their transactions in a secure location.
Millions of people use OfferUp every day to buy and sell items to friends and neighbors, but also new acquaintances. Trust and safety is paramount to creating positive experiences, and each OfferUp Community MeetUp Spot is monitored, well-lit, and surveilled.

Earlier this year, OfferUp created SafeTradeSpots.com, the largest national database of locations for in-person transactions. The company already collaborates with over 1,400 police departments across the country to designate and manage their version of a Community MeetUp Spot, which helps ensure buyers and sellers can meet for in-person transactions with added peace of mind. Adding popular retail locations from Giant Eagle to OfferUp's current list of safe exchange spots adds to the core customer safety features in the app, including TruYou identity confirmation, user ratings and reviews, and secure in-app messaging that allows customers to communicate without having to share their personal information.
The partnership also includes a digital coupon for OfferUp customers to get a free 16 oz. bottle of Market District Ready-to-Drink Tea or Lemonade from Giant Eagle when they make plans to meet at a participating Giant Eagle, Market District, or GetGo location. The coupon is available for a limited time.
To get the coupon, customers in Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh, who are communicating via OfferUp's in-app chat feature, should:
- Suggest meeting at a Giant Eagle, Market District, or GetGo location
- When prompted, select "Get free item" to get the coupon for a free drink, and select "find locations" to get a list of participating stores
- Get the exclusive coupon for the free drink in the app, and redeem it at a participating store when meeting up to exchange your item
