On November 14th Take The Lead, and Lyft

NEW YORK, Nov. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Lyft, the transportation network company, has raised its stake in women's leadership parity by announcing a multipart sponsorship of Take The Lead Day, a global day of action in support of women's leadership parity on November 14th.

"Lyft has always been at the forefront of advancing women and fighting for gender equality in the workplace," says Drena Kusari, Lyft General Manager, Southwest Region. "This is an amazing opportunity for Lyft to continue to support other organizations who care for and fight for the same cause."

A long-standing supporter of women both in and out of its organization, Lyft will donate $10 to Take The Lead, the women's leadership nonprofit, every time a new user downloads the app and uses the code TAKETHELEAD as a passenger on that day. This partnership begins today and will last for one year, November 2018.

It will also offer special discount codes nationally for new and existing riders who use the service to attend any of the Take The Lead Day events and watch parties across the country. Events are scheduled in over 89 cities including New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, and Phoenix.

Lyft is revving up its recruitment for women drivers on Take The Lead Day. The company has joined up with Take The Lead to offer their female drivers a chance to take a three-part virtual training course taught by Take The Lead Leadership Ambassadors in December. The training will be taught by Jenn Manuel, Felicia Davis, and Kristie Holmes and will cover critical areas in the curriculum Take The Lead cofounder Gloria Feldt created to teach women skills, techniques, and concepts needed as women move up in their careers.

And in Phoenix, Lyft is giving their drivers special Take The Lead Day materials to share on November 14th with their riders. Lyft will play a part in Phoenix's own Take The Lead Day event hosted at Galvanize and scheduled with a full day's and evening's worth of programming featuring speakers from Take The Lead, GoDaddy, Phos Labs, Synapse Studios, and Hera Hub.

Drena Kusari, Lyft's southwest region general manager, played a critical part in bringing Lyft and Take The Lead together for the November 14th event. A survivor of the war in Bosnia, she spent time after the conflict working with refugee families and was recently chosen for the Athena Young Professional Award given by the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, in recognition for her work in the community. The team she leads has been instrumental in creating innovative ways in which the company and the nonprofit could work together on this special day.

Concerning the partnership on Take The Lead Day, Kusari says, "Both organizations stand for the advancement of women and gender equality in leadership. Take The Lead Day, created by the nonprofit women's leadership organization Take The Lead, is hosting events, skills-based workshops, interactive panels, live stream watch parties, webinars in over 90 cities and 10 countries on November 14th to help provide women with the tools and confidence to move women's leadership parity forward, 70 years ahead of time.

In their NYC hub, the Helen Mills Auditorium, the organization will host Powertopia Symposium, a half-day program of skill-based workshops and interactive panels led by expert women in every field.
