OpenSearch Software Foundation Appoints Bianca Lewis as Executive Director to Oversee Member and Community Support

Foundation reaffirms commitment to vendor neutrality and sustainable community growth

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenSearchCon North America -- The OpenSearch Software Foundation, the vendor-neutral home for the OpenSearch Project, today announced the appointment of Bianca Lewis as executive director. This strategic leadership addition further demonstrates the Foundation's evolution in the year since its formation under the Linux Foundation, and underscores its commitment to fostering vendor-neutral, community-first development, ensuring long-term sustainability.

Lewis joins the Foundation with more than two decades of experience in technology, entrepreneurship, and business strategy. She has served in executive leadership positions guiding the performance and growth of search and analytics technologies at companies like Opster and Logz.io. Currently, she serves on the advisory board of multiple international tech companies and sits on the board at LGBTWork, championing diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.

"Bianca brings deep experience building businesses around search technologies and a strong belief in community-led development," said Carl Meadows, governing board chair at the OpenSearch Software Foundation and director of product management at Amazon Web Services (AWS). "Her leadership will help drive the next phase of growth for the Foundation, helping democratize search and analytics solutions and enabling innovation across industries."

As executive director, Lewis will guide the Foundation's strategic direction, foster collaboration across stakeholders and strengthen community engagement. She will also focus on implementing scalable processes to ensure operational excellence as OpenSearch continues its rapid growth.

The Foundation has seen notable growth since its formation, including an expanded membership base, and the creation of a technical steering committee with 15 members from organizations like Aryn, Slack, IBM, and more. Additionally, it established an observability technical advisory group and a build interest group to advance on the development of these technologies and drive project growth. With the support of the Foundation, the OpenSearch Project increased performance, introduced major feature upgrades to enable AI adoption, and gained contributions from industry leaders like ByteDance, SAP and Uber.
