OpenTable Restaurant Reviews Reveal the Top 100 Scenic View Restaurants in America

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of summer vacation season, OpenTable, the world's leading provider of online restaurant reservations and part of The Priceline Group (NASDAQ: PCLN), is pleased to honor the 2014 Diners' Choice Award winners for the Top 100 Scenic View Restaurants in America. These awards reflect the combined opinions of more than 5 million restaurant reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners for more than 19,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Featuring restaurants showcasing both natural and urban beauty that attract locals and travelers alike, the complete list includes award winners in 28 states, such as Chart House Restaurant in Monterey, California, Top of Waikiki in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Water's Edge in Long Island City, New York. The geographically diverse state of California handily dominates with 38 winning restaurants. Washington follows with seven honorees, Hawaii with five, and Florida with four. Arizona, Maine, Maryland, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and Wyoming each have three award winners. Michigan and New Jersey have two apiece. Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Virginia are also represented.

Diners delighted most in scenic views of the water, with oceanfront restaurants proving most popular, followed closely by lakeside and riverfront eateries. Cityscape establishments and those in natural settings were equally common on the list. American cuisine was most prevalent, followed by seafood. Chinese, French, Italian, Peruvian, and Polynesian fares are also present on the list.

The Diners' Choice Awards for the Top 100 Scenic View Restaurants in America are generated from more than 5 million restaurant reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014. All restaurants with a minimum "overall" score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of qualifying reviews for which "scenic view" was selected as a special feature.
