Original Family Recipe Awarded $20,000 in Spreading Smucker's® Traditions Recipe and Essay Contest

ORRVILLE, Ohio, March 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, The J.M. Smucker Company, makers of Smucker's® Jams, Jellies, Preserves and Fruit Butters, announced Carmell C. of Provo, UT, as the winner of the fourth annual Spreading Smucker's Traditions Recipe and Essay Contest. Carmell was one of five finalists invited to New York City to present her special dish at a live judging event this past week. Her winning recipe, Chicken Bacon Burgers with Cherry-Chive Mayo, was inspired by a treasured dish her mother used to make their family for Sunday night dinners.  Her unique twist on an old favorite has become a new family tradition which she refers to as a "celebration of family and good times."

Carmell will be able to celebrate her family's traditions and create new ones with the $20,000 grand prize to host a family reunion and $1,000 to enlist a personal planner to help with the details. The four runners-up each received a Smucker's gift basket for their delicious recipe:

This past fall, Smucker's asked consumers from across the country to share an original family recipe made with jams, jellies, preserves or fruit butter along with a short essay about how the dish makes family celebrations special.
