AQABA, Jordan, Nov. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Otis elevators have been selected for the largest contract in the history of Jordan's elevator industry for Saraya Aqaba. Otis, which operates in Jordan as Jordan Elevator Overseas Limited, will supply Saraya Aqaba with a total of 193 elevators. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), a leading provider to the aerospace and building systems industries worldwide.
A landmark project for the Kingdom of Jordan, Saraya Aqaba will create a new tourist destination and regional business hub along the shores of the Red Sea. The development will have a range of Otis products including the Gen2® elevator system. The Gen2 system uses patented Otis technologies, including composite steel flat belts that replace traditional elevator cables to improve efficiency and ride comfort. The Gen2's compact gearless machine requires minimal machine room space, allowing for rapid installation. An innovative ReGen™ regenerative drive captures energy created by the elevator, feeding the energy back into a building's electrical grid. This makes the Gen2 up to 75 percent more energy efficient than conventional systems with non-regenerative drives.
