AUSTIN, Texas, April 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- In recognition of Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month (LLLDAM) this April, Ottobock is supporting a series of events and initiatives across the United States designed to celebrate the limb loss community, promote accessibility, and advocate for policies that expand access to prosthetics and orthotics.
Observed each April and led by the Amputee Coalition, Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month brings attention to the millions of people living with limb loss, limb difference, and mobility challenges. Through community events, adaptive sports programs, and policy advocacy, Ottobock is helping raise awareness while highlighting the possibilities created by modern mobility technology.
"Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month is about more than awareness—it's about celebrating the strength of a community and ensuring people have access to the care and technology they need to live active lives," said Scott Schneider, Head of Government/Medical Affairs & Future Development at Ottobock North America. "At Ottobock, we're proud to stand alongside the clinicians, advocates, and individuals who continue to move this community forward."
Key Initiatives During Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month
Throughout April, Ottobock will participate in a range of activities designed to highlight awareness, advocacy, and community connection, including:
- Lighting iconic Canadian landmarks, including the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, and the Toronto Sign, in orange, the official color of Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month, to raise national and global visibility for the limb loss and limb difference community.
- Participating in the AOPA Policy Forum in Washington, D.C., where prosthetics and orthotics professionals meet with lawmakers to advocate for improved access to prosthetic and orthotic care.
- Hosting internal "Living the Brand" events, bringing employees together to hear personal stories from individuals with limb loss and limb difference and reinforce the company's mission of supporting human mobility.
Supporting Advocacy in Washington, D.C.
Ottobock will participate in the AOPA Policy Forum in Washington, D.C., where clinicians, industry leaders, and advocates meet with members of Congress to discuss policies that impact individuals living with limb loss and mobility challenges.
These discussions help advance state and federal initiatives aimed at improving access to prosthetic and orthotic care for people living with leg amputation, arm amputation, and other mobility conditions.
Community Events and Engagement
In addition to advocacy and awareness initiatives, Ottobock is supporting community events that empower individuals with limb loss through connection, sport, and shared experiences.
Key events include:
- Full Circle Movement Giveaway – One participant will receive the opportunity to attend a Full Circle Movement event, Ottobock's adaptive mobility experience that introduces individuals with limb loss to sports, mentorship, and community support.
- Inspire Golf Classic – An adaptive golf event in Central Texas highlighting the growing accessibility of sports for individuals with limb loss and limb difference. Team Ottobock is attending the event with support from its Stewardship Committee.
- Camp No Limits – A nationally recognized camp for children with limb loss or limb difference and their families, providing peer support, mentorship, and education. This is also supported by Ottobock's Stewardship Committee.
These events reflect Ottobock's commitment to building community while encouraging individuals to explore new possibilities through movement.
Advancing Awareness and Access
More than five million Americans live with limb loss, and that number is expected to grow in the coming decades. Increased awareness, improved access to prosthetics and orthotics, and continued advocacy remain essential to ensuring individuals with limb loss, limb difference, or conditions such as paralysis can pursue the mobility and independence they desire.
By supporting community programs, adaptive sports events, and policy advocacy, Ottobock continues to work alongside clinicians, advocates, and individuals across the limb loss community to expand access to care and mobility solutions.
"Every story of mobility is unique," said Melissa Langley, Director of Marketing Communications. "But what connects them all is the opportunity to move forward, and that's something we're committed to supporting every day."
