Since 2015, over 1.5 million Outschool families have matched their kids' needs and curiosities with more than 140,000 live, teacher-led classes, from Spanish to marine biology, and everything in between.
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Outschool, which connects over 1.5 million school-age kids and their families with live, small-group online classes taught by credentialed educators who teach what they love, today announced the appointment of Brian Co as Chief Executive Officer. Co joins Outschool from PowerSchool, where he led the company's family engagement and college, career, and life readiness products, the latest chapter in a career spent helping students connect what they learn to where they're going.
"We started Outschool because we believed kids learn best when they're pursuing what they genuinely love. Today, the expansion of public funding and new learning opportunities are giving families greater choice and agency, creating new demand for trusted guidance, customization, and real human connection. Brian brings the perfect mix of deep K-12 knowledge and a strong product and operating track record to support this next phase," said Amir Nathoo, co-founder and board member of Outschool. "He leads with mission, obsesses over the family experience, and he cares deeply about the educators who make our classes so special. I couldn't imagine a better custodian of our mission to inspire kids to love learning."
Outschool helps families build personalized, flexible learning paths shaped around each child's academic and emotional needs, offering core subjects like Algebra and English and special interest classes from Minecraft engineering to marine biology, and everything in between. Classes are live and small by design, averaging four students per teacher, with options built for a wide range of learners, including Orton-Gillingham instruction for students with dyslexia and formats that work well for kids with ADHD and other learning differences. Families can also choose from self-paced classes and enrichment designed to help every child build a genuine love of learning.
Co arrives as more families embrace a more personalized, curated approach to learning. According to research from Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy, homeschooling rates have more than doubled in the last five years, with 36% of reporting states logging their highest-ever homeschool enrollment in the 2024-25 school year. More than 19 states now offer "education savings accounts," which provide funding directly to families for tuition, tutoring, and other education expenses.
Co has spent nearly two decades helping students find their footing and pursue their interests. He founded a company built to help students stay on track academically, and held senior roles at mission-driven organizations including Strada Education Foundation and InsideTrack, where he worked to connect students with the coaching, guidance, and pathways they need to reach their goals. Most recently, he served as Group Vice President of Product at PowerSchool, leading K–12 products serving millions of students, families, and educators.
"Every parent knows the difference between a kid who has to learn something and a kid who wants to," said Co. "Outschool families aren't just signing up for classes; they're watching their kids light up about learning and shaping their education around what works for them. Outschool gives families the confidence, choice, and support to direct and personalize their child's education. Helping bring that experience to more learners and families, alongside this extraordinary community of educators, is the opportunity of my career."
