Panopto launches new ways to find, study, and use knowledge captured in video

Folio, AI Search, and MCP Server make trusted knowledge easier to find, faster to learn from, and simpler to put to work

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Panopto, the global leader in AI-powered video knowledge management, today announced three new capabilities that help people find answers faster, turn trusted video into active learning, and bring organizational knowledge into the AI tools they already use.

For more than 20 years, Panopto has helped universities and organizations capture expertise and make it available to more people than could fit in a classroom, lecture hall, or training room. Video libraries keep growing, and generative AI has raised the bar for how quickly people expect to get answers, especially ones that they trust. Panopto is building on that foundation to make the knowledge already captured easier to find, learn from, and apply, while preserving the trust and source context organizations need.

Panopto's recent research underscores the challenge across both learning and work. Its The Next Era of Video-Based Learning report found that while 77% of students say video-based learning saves them at least an hour of study time each week, 38% still struggle to locate a particular topic inside a recording. The challenge extends into the workplace: 68% of L&D and training leaders report that most of their recorded video training is not searchable, while 51% say employees struggle because content is spread across too many systems and they aren't sure where to look.

Instead of rewatching a full recording to find the part that matters, learners can generate study guides, flashcards, and practice quizzes from that content, or work with an AI tutor grounded in the material itself.

For students, that means spending limited study time on the concepts where they actually need help instead of guessing what to review. For employees, it means reinforcing training and prepping for certifications using content their organization already trusts, without asking an instructor or manager to build additional materials.

Get the answer, immediately

AI Search lets people ask questions conversationally across their entire Panopto library and get a synthesized answer with links back to the exact source clip and timestamp, instead of guessing which recording has the answer or scrubbing through hours of footage.

That matters most in the moment someone is stuck: instead of interrupting an expert to ask a question that's already been answered on video, they get the answer directly, and work keeps moving.

Bring trusted knowledge into the AI tools teams already use

Panopto's MCP Server connects with approved tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft 365 Copilot directly to knowledge stored in Panopto, so organizations can securely bring that knowledge into the tools their people already use. 

Panopto's existing permissions and administrative controls carry over, access is read-only, and organizational content is never used to train external AI models. Teams get the flexibility to build without giving up security, permissions, or control.

Together, these three capabilities build on Panopto's existing foundation for capturing, managing, securing, and sharing video by expanding what organizations can do with the knowledge already inside it.
