Paraguayan Chamber of Meat (CPC) highlights falling ground beef prices, record shipments and Paraguay's role as a reliable hemispheric partner; urges Trump Administration to provide dedicated quota for Paraguay.
ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay, Oct. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Paraguayan Chamber of Meat (CPC) today welcomed recent relief in U.S. ground beef prices and urged the Trump Administration to grant Paraguay a dedicated beef quota, citing the country's rising production, growing exports and commitment to the United States as a trusted partner in the Western Hemisphere.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, ground beef prices fell 1.3% in September – the largest monthly decline since 2024. U.S. imports of Paraguayan beef rose 46% from January through July 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, according to USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service. Shipments reached 43,000 metric tons through September. USDA also forecasts Paraguay's total 2027 beef exports at 460,000 tons carcass weight equivalent, demonstrating expanding production and strong supply capacity.
"President Donald Trump's decision to remove tariffs on Paraguayan beef is delivering real results, and demonstrates how targeted trade cooperation can support American consumers while strengthening ties with a close regional ally," said CPC President Juan Carlos Pettengill. "A dedicated quota for Paraguay would give producers and buyers the consistency they need while supporting price relief for U.S. families."
President Santiago Peña met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Asunción earlier this week. Beef was identified as a high priority in bilateral relations during his visit.
"The United States and Paraguay have an opportunity to show what results-driven cooperation among Western Hemisphere partners can achieve," said CPC General Manager Daniel Burt. "Paraguay has built its beef industry with partners who share our values, not with China. Expanded regional cooperation is a win for consumers, a win for producers and a win for the Americas."
