Ohio Legislature Targets Medicaid Abuse, #MedicaidMillionaires Scandal Yields $1.2B / Year Annual Savings by Simply Throwing Millionaires Off Medicaid, $200B in Federal Savings to the Big Beautiful Bill

COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Patient First Coalition (PFC) #MedicaidMillionaires Task Force applauded Ohio State Representative Mike Dovilla for introducing landmark legislation, House Bill 356, aimed at eliminating fraud within Ohio's Medicaid system by immediately throwing over 10,000 millionaires off the Medicaid rolls. HB356 mandates rigorous asset verification for all Medicaid enrollees, authorizes and funds State Auditor Keith Faber to perform a thorough audit of Ohio's Medicaid ABD enrollment records, and resolves a critical issue by permanently ensuring the Auditor's access to essential data.

Representative Dovilla's legislation emerged following extensive oversight investigations revealing shocking abuses. Over 10,000 millionaires in Ohio have been documented as improperly enrolled in Medicaid, costing state taxpayers an alarming $6.3 billion annually. By instituting rigorous verification checks, HB356 is projected to deliver immediate budget savings of at least $1.2 billion per year at the state level. This action also promises an additional $2.22 billion in corresponding federal savings, significantly bolstering President Trump's federal "Big Beautiful Bill."

"Ohioans rightly expect that programs like Medicaid are preserved for those truly in need," said Representative Dovilla. "House Bill 356 strengthens program integrity by helping ensure public dollars are responsibly stewarded and directed to our most vulnerable neighbors."

Ohio's proactive approach, delivering substantial state savings while boosting federal budget integrity, must be accurately reflected in revised Congressional Budget Office (CBO) scoring."

Burns added, "We call on the CBO to urgently update their scoring methods to reflect these significant, verified savings, enabling resources to be appropriately redirected to secure and modernize Medicaid for citizens genuinely in need."

Multiple states around the nation have initiated oversight actions in response to the #MedicaidMillionaires Scandal exposed in Ohio.
