Pennsylvania DCNR Announces Grants Available for Protecting Non-Game Species

HARRISBURG, Pa., May 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Wild Resource Conservation Program is accepting applications for grants to protect the state's native biodiversity.

The program, overseen by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, safeguards Pennsylvania's non-game animals, native plants and their habitat. It has awarded more than 1,800 grants in support of research, conservation and education projects across Pennsylvania.

Grant applications will be accepted in four areas: surveys, research, conservation and management, and education. A list of specific priorities has been developed by the Bureau of Forestry, Bureau of State Parks, Pa. Game Commission, and Pa. Fish and Boat Commission, and applicants should ensure that their proposal addresses one or more of these priorities.

"We will continue to utilize the expertise of DCNR's bureaus of forestry, state parks, and recreation and conservation for input on these applications," said DCNR Secretary Ellen Ferretti. "This provides a diverse background that can best identify sound research and conservation efforts that will be a sound investment of grant dollars."

Launched in 1982, the program encourages and supports research and protection efforts to conserve Pennsylvania's diverse native wildlife resources, including bird and mammal species, amphibians and reptiles, insects and wild plants.

Applications are being accepted until June 30, for work to be performed between January 2015 and June 2016. Applications will only be accepted electronically through DCNR's eGrants online grant application system.
