Penton Media Promotes Wayne Madden to Vice President, Sales Development

NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob MacArthur, senior vice president of Penton Media, and a member of the Penton Executive Committee, announced today the appointment of Wayne Madden to the newly created position of vice president, sales development.  Madden was formerly market leader for the Digital Media Market Sector (he will continue to supervise Broadcast Engineering).  Penton is the largest independent B2B media company in the U.S.

"While Penton's sales are highly concentrated in 17 verticals in which we operate, we determined that there was a need for someone to guide a variety of sales and sales development initiatives across the company," said MacArthur.

In the new role, Madden will do the following:

• Develop and execute on plans to both provide effective training for the Penton sales force and develop key tools.  This will include sales training and development.
• Implement a strategic account management program across Penton for clients that touch multiple markets.
• Supervise the adoption of Salesforce.com by Penton's sales force.
• Oversee and jumpstart Penton Telesales which currently has approximately 30 sales representatives and is focused on expanding Penton's marketing sales.

Reporting to Madden will be Mike Hancock, vice president, international sales, who supervises Penton's non-U.S. independent sales representatives.

Madden has been with Penton for over 20 years in a variety of roles demonstrating increased responsibility.  He first joined the company in 1990 as a Technical Editor for NEWS 3X/400 (now System iNEWS) and was named Publisher of that same publication in 1995.  He became Group Publisher of IBM Technology Group in 1998 and was named Group Publisher of IBM Technology and Video Groups in June 2007. Most recently, he became Market Leader of the Digital Media and Communications sector in February 2009, a position he has held until now.
