"More and more companies are relocating to Phoenix, and this is having a great impact on IT hiring in the area," said Thor Oakley, metro market manager for Robert Half Technology in Phoenix. "We're seeing growth in the construction, technology and healthcare sectors. Many of these companies are launching projects that require professionals who have experience in network administration and development. The swift growth has created a war for talent, and companies that don't move quickly to extend offers may lose out on the best talent."
Hiring forecasts are based on interviews with more than 2,500 CIOs from 25 major U.S. markets who were asked to provide a six-month hiring outlook.
Recruiting Challenges and Skills in Demand
Hiring challenges remain, as 60 percent of CIOs said it's somewhat or very challenging to find skilled IT professionals today. The skills in greatest demand within their organizations, according to respondents, include:
- Network administration (59 percent)
- Telecommunications support (54 percent)
- Wireless network management (53 percent)
