NEW YORK, Aug. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Practising Law Institute (PLI) is proud to accept Association for Continuing Legal Education's (ACLEA's) "Best Award" for its Interactive Learning Center's (ILC's) domestic violence pro bono program series. PLI received the award at ACLEA's Annual Meeting on Tuesday, July 31st in Portland, Oregon. This is the fourth consecutive year that PLI's ILC has been recognized by ACLEA.
In Part I of the series, "Working with Survivors of Domestic Violence," lawyers learn to interview and counsel domestic violence survivors and work collaboratively with clients who may be traumatized. Part II, "Representing Domestic Violence Survivors in Court," teaches attorneys how to prepare clients for court appearances, negotiate on their behalf and help clients understand what court decisions mean.
"An essential element of PLI's mission is our commitment to the pro bono community and training those who are dedicated to providing legal assistance to those who need access to justice," said Anita Shapiro, President of PLI. "We are very proud to be honored for this realistic, scenario-based series, produced by our ILC, which prepares lawyers who take on these difficult domestic violence cases."
PLI's ILC developed this two-part series in conjunction with Kaleidoscope Learning, a developer of custom e-learning programs. Subject matter expertise was provided by Alicia Aiken, Principal, Aiken Strategic Partners and Director, Confidentiality Institute. Additional content assistance was provided by Her Justice, a nonprofit organization that mentors volunteers to aid domestic violence survivors.
