Policygenius Announces Their Fall 2018 Scholarship Winner

NEW YORK, July 23, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Policygenius is proud to announce the winner of its first bi-annual scholarship. The $3,000 scholarship winner for the fall 2018 semester is Marissa Heffernan, a senior at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

"We are proud to offer this scholarship to help people further their education and we're happy to have Marissa as our first recipient," Jennifer Fitzgerald, CEO and co-founder of Policygenius, said.

Applicants for the Policygenius scholarship were asked to submit an original essay describing an accomplishment, event or realization that changed the applicants' understanding of money. An editorial board reviewed the essays and chose the winner based on qualifications like thoughtfulness, insight and writing mechanics.

Heffernan, a journalism major with minors in French and environmental science, told the story of building a treehouse when she was 11-years-old with her grandfather, who put her in charge of the financial books for the project. You can read the full winning essay here.

"Getting this scholarship means so much to me, not only because it helps me complete my undergraduate education, but because the essay I wrote is about my family," Heffernan said.
