Portage Community Bank Announces Untimely Passing of Longtime Executive

RAVENNA, Ohio, July 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Portage Community Bank ("PCB"), the wholly-owned bank subsidiary of Portage Bancshares, Inc. ("PBI"), announces with profound sadness, the passing of Donald D. "Don" Herman, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer ("CFO"). Mr. Herman passed away on the evening of Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Mr. Herman joined PCB in 1999 as the bank's senior financial officer and had been promoted to CFO in 2009. Mr. Herman had performed an instrumental role in the bank's growth, stability, and financial stewardship during his career at PCB. A respected leader, trusted advisor, and deeply valued colleague, Don was admired not only for his financial insight, but for his unwavering integrity, compassion, and steady presence.

Beyond the walls of the bank, Don was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife, Delinda, daughter Emma, stepson Boston Walden, and many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will forever cherish his memory.

As PCB begins the process of identifying a permanent successor, PCB's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Robert S. Standardi, has assumed the responsibilities of Chief Financial Officer on an interim basis. The Board of Directors and executive leadership team are committed to ensuring a smooth transition while honoring Don's remarkable contributions.
