SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Powermat Technologies today announced it has eclipsed 150 million phone-charging minutes in just one year, becoming the only mass deployed public wireless charging network in the world to accomplish the feat. In fact, people in the U.S., UK and Canada powered up their smartphones wirelessly at Powermat Charging Spots for more than 2 million hours in total in the past year— that's three lifetimes worth of wireless power.

Today, the company also announced a new software upgrade that will enhance all third–generation and above Powermat Charging Spots to support 15 Watt charging. Expected to roll out commercially later in 2016, the update will allow consumers to power up their higher capacity devices such as enabled smartphones and tablets quicker than ever before, giving businesses yet another reason to become mobile-optimized. 

Powermat will unveil the 15-Watt software upgrade at Mobile World Congress, demonstrating the adaptability and flexibility of its centrally-managed, cloud-based engagement platform. Since Powermat's wireless charging platform is connected to the cloud, participating venues can choose to upgrade to new software and hence new capabilities later this year.
