Preferred Compounding to Double Capacity in Mexico
BARBERTON, Ohio, June 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Value-added custom mixer Preferred Compounding will double capacity and employment at its plant in Central Mexico by the first quarter of 2015, the company announced today. Preferred's board of directors approved capital for the expansion which will include a second Farrel F-270 Tangential variable speed mixer and an in-line gear pump strainer.
The announcement comes 16 months after commissioning of the first Farrel F-270 at the 66,000 square-foot plant in the city of San Luis Potosi and 24 months after Preferred purchased the operation from Iacp Jevsa of Barcelona, Spain in July of 2012.
"We expected to add another compounding line sometime in the future, but our rapid growth in Mexico is enabling us to move forward now," said Scott Lieberman, general manager of Preferred Compounding de Mexico. "This expansion provides additional throughput, local redundancy and enhanced capabilities to our customers in Mexico."
Preferred Compounding de Mexico provides custom compounds and services primarily to the Mexican operations of US, Asian and European parts manufacturers. Lieberman said the current facility can accommodate the additional mixer without physical expansion.
Preferred Compounding de Mexico is a wholly owned subsidiary of Barberton, Ohio-based Preferred Compounding. In addition to San Luis Potosi and Ohio, Preferred has compounding operations in Tennessee and Georgia.
Preferred also operates a Farrel F-270 mixer at its facility in Huntingdon, Tennessee, running the same Mesabi Mix Vision controls. All four Preferred plants are certified to ISO 9001:2008 and provide compounds following the company's MixLoc™ quality standards.
