Felipe Murillo's promotion reinforces Presence's commitment to delivering secure, intelligent technology that helps K–12 schools work more efficiently, improve student support, and meet evolving special education needs
NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Presence, a leading provider of K–12 special education technology and teletherapy services, today announced the promotion of Felipe Murillo to Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Murillo will lead the company's engineering, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology strategy, advancing Presence's commitment to delivering innovative, secure, and scalable solutions that help schools meet today's challenges and prepare for tomorrow's needs.
"Presence is deeply committed to helping our school partners navigate the increasingly complex demands of special education with innovative, ethical, and secure technology," said Kate Eberle Walker, Chief Executive Officer of Presence. "Schools need technology that makes their teams more effective, gives educators more time with students, and provides meaningful insights into student support and outcomes. Felipe brings the technical expertise, strategic vision, and commitment to responsible innovation to help us deliver on that promise."
Building Technology That Gives Educators More Time for Students and Impact
An estimated 7.5 million students in the U.S. receive special education services, yet staffing shortages, growing administrative demands, and fragmented systems continue to strain school teams.
Presence addresses these challenges through an integrated combination of high-quality related services and purpose-built technology. Its nationwide network of more than 2,000 licensed clinicians expands access to psychological evaluations, speech-language and occupational therapy, and mental and behavioral health counseling. Its Kanga platform streamlines how clinicians and school teams plan, deliver, and document services, while Education Modified centralizes IEPs, accommodations, interventions, and compliance documentation.
Together, these solutions reduce administrative burden, improve coordination, and turn data into actionable insights, helping educators spend less time on paperwork and more time supporting students. To date, Presence has partnered with more than 11,000 schools across 47 states and delivered over 8 million remote evaluations and teletherapy sessions.
Under Murillo's leadership, Presence will continue investing in technology that drives efficiency, provides greater visibility into student services and outcomes, strengthens data security and compliance, and responsibly applies AI to support educators and clinicians.
"Security, privacy, and responsible AI are foundational to building technology schools can trust," Murillo said. "What makes this work especially meaningful to me is seeing the real impact our solutions have on educators and students. I'm incredibly proud to be part of an organization that innovates with purpose, using technology to solve real challenges and make a lasting difference in education."
Advancing Security, Compliance, and Responsible AI
Since joining Presence in 2023 as the Vice President of Engineering, Murillo has modernized the company's engineering organization and strengthened its security and compliance program, including work supporting SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, and FERPA requirements.
As CTO, he will continue advancing Presence's commitment to secure, responsible technology, including ethical AI applications that reduce administrative burden while keeping clinicians and educators in control of professional decisions.
Murillo brings more than a decade of technology leadership across healthcare, education, and SaaS. Previously, he served as Vice President of Engineering at Xplor Technologies and Director of Engineering at BetterCloud, where he led integrations supporting partnerships with Dropbox and Microsoft. He also held engineering leadership roles at NCR and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, where he built FDA-regulated software supporting early autism diagnosis. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
