Pritzker Military Museum & Library Kicks Off the 2025 Season on National Medal of Honor Day

KENOSHA, Wis., March 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On this National Medal of Honor Day, the Pritzker Military Museum & Library (PMML) kicks off the 2025 exhibit season by recognizing Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams, a hero of the Iconic Battle of Iwo Jima. The Medal of Honor exhibit which debuts on March 26th, will include the prestigious medal Williams received for his courage and valor, along with other items for the public to view.

The Medal of Honor display is just part of the many exhibits and programs debuting in 2025 at PMML.

"April is an exceptional month at the PMML. We are opening two new exhibits, Remembered Light on April 2nd and The Color of Freedom, April16th. Additional offerings in 2025 will include workshops, talks, and a Memorial Day Program honoring our servicemembers on May 24th. The PMML is excited to share these amazing offerings with the Wisconsin community," PMML Interim President, Eden Juron Pearlman. "The 2025 season will be a year of impressive experiences at PMML."

The public can expect the following April exhibits and programs.

Remembered Light stained-glass exhibit is an extraordinary collection of twenty-five artworks using glass shards collected from bombed-out European cathedrals, synagogues, and chapels during World War II by the late Frederick McDonald. In collaboration with the Interfaith Center at the Presidio, PMML enables the public to go back to the past and witness the stories of this historic era.

"It is an honor to bring the story of Army Chaplain Frederick McDonald and the beautiful stained-glass art pieces of Remembered Light to Wisconsin. Through this exhibit, McDonald and the artists who created the pieces have given new life to the broken glass shards that littered the religious sanctuaries of Western Europe over 80 years ago. These inspirational pieces remind us that we can reclaim beauty from the rubble of a world shattered by hate," Dustin DePue, Director of Collections at PMML, explained as he and his team assembled the fragile exhibit.

Telling Your Story: A Memoir Workshop with Lita and Jean. In this highly engaging program on April 10th, award-winning authors Lita Tomas and Jean McNamara will share their personal journeys of writing their memoir, the lessons learned along the way, and the advice they have for anyone looking to do the same.

The Color of Freedom highlights the stories of the many women of color who have served within the US Armed Forces.

"My favorite aspect of this exhibit is the uniform of Charity (Adams) Earley, which will be on display. Earley was the first Black commissioned officer in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), serving as commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only Black WAC unit to serve overseas during World War II," DePue stated regarding the exhibit's origin.

In 1943, the WAAC was renamed the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and became a fully active-duty branch of the Army.

DePue also adds, "We are very thankful to the Military Women's Memorial for loaning us this trailblazing piece of history."
