Private Markets Industry Leader Mario Giannini to Retire from Hamilton Lane

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Hamilton Lane (Nasdaq: HLNE), a leading global private markets investment management firm, today announced that Mario Giannini, Executive Co-Chairman, will retire effective March 31, 2027. His retirement concludes more than three decades with the firm and a career that has had a lasting impact on Hamilton Lane and the broader private markets industry.

Giannini joined Hamilton Lane in 1993 as the firm's third employee. Over the course of his tenure, he played an instrumental role in shaping the firm's strategy and growth, including its expansion into new business lines and geographies and its initial public offering in 2017. He served as Chief Executive Officer from 2001 through 2023, when he transitioned to Executive Co-Chairman and was succeeded by Hamilton Lane's current co-Chief Executive Officers, Juan Delgado-Moreira and Erik Hirsch.

Giannini's influence extended well beyond his leadership of Hamilton Lane. He became one of the private markets industry's most distinctive and thoughtful voices, known for his direct style, independent perspective and willingness to challenge conventional thinking. His views were grounded by a practical understanding of markets and a consistent focus on what the data could (and could not) support.

For many years, Giannini also authored Hamilton Lane's annual Market Overview, offering an analysis of market conditions, industry trends and the forces likely to shape private markets in the years ahead. He wrote additional market commentary during significant periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic and more recently on tariff policy. His writing often reflected his interests outside of investing, including his longstanding passion for music. Giannini is an accomplished guitarist and has played lead guitar in Hamilton Lane's company band, The Hamiltones, which raises money for local nonprofits.
