Professor Xing Zhou, the Immunology Expert from McMaster University of Canada, has Joined us as the Visiting Professor of West China Hospital Respiratory Medicine

CHENGDU, China, Oct. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Recently, the ceremony for the appointment of Professor Xing Zhou, the immunology expert from McMaster University of Canada, as the Visiting Professor of Respiratory Medicine was held in the physician office of Respiratory Medicine. Mr. Gong Qiyong, the vice director of our hospital, and all medical staff were in the attendance. The ceremony was presided over by the Director of Respiratory Medicine Mr. Wen Fuqiang.

At the meeting, Mr. Wen introduced the working experience, research expertise and achievements of Professor Xing while Mr. Gong announced the employment decision and issued the Letter of Appointment to Professor Xing, followed by a speech given by Professor Xing expressing his will to carry out the long-term academic exchanges and cooperation with our hospital.

By now, Professor Xing has tutored 12 students of the Masters, Ph.D. and eight-year Program students in Respiratory Medicine at our hospital in publishing 4 SCI papers in magazines such as Cancer, Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology etc. Professor Xing has planned to stay for 3-weeks in our hospital this time for academic exchange, including giving lectures to the faculty and students at our hospital on the subjects of Negative Regulation of Lung Immunopathology and Fibrotic Remodeling by TNF-Alpha During Influenza Infection, How To Prepare Manuscripts, etc., and holding seminars on the cooperating subject of The Investigation of Relationship Between Drug Resistance and Airway Luminal Immune Responses in MDR-TB

Professor Xing obtained his Ph.D. degree of Immunology from McMaster University of Canada in 1993. From September of 1993 to December of 1995, he was doing the postdoctoral research in the Department of Molecular Pathology at McMaster University. From July of 2007 to now, he has been serving as a tenured professor at McMaster University. His main research subjects are the immune regulatory mechanisms of bacterial infection of the lungs and the development of vaccine to tuberculosis and tuberculosis gene. He acquired dozens of research projects funded by the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. National Institute of Health (NIH), the Canadian Institute of Health and some other institutions. He published over 120 papers in internationally renowned magazines such as the Journal of Immunology, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Blood, American Journal of Pathology, American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology. He was conferred with the international Scientific Exchange Award of the Canadian Institute of Health, the Canadian Innovation Fund Award, the United States Parker B. Francis Foundation Research Award and several other awards. He has been invited to give lectures in the United States, Canada, Switzerland and China more than 70 times. He is now the deputy chief editor of BMC Immunology Magazine, the editors committee member of Gene Vaccines and Therapy, Medicinal Chemistry etc., the reviewer expert for American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, American Journal of Pathology, Blood, Journal of Clinical Investigation etc., and also member of the review committee of the Canadian Institute of Health Fund and the Irish Health Research Fund.
