NEW HAVEN, Conn., Nov. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Prometheus Research, an integrated data management services provider whose software offerings include RexDB®, HTSQL, and HTRAF, announced today that co-founder, Clark Evans, will be one of six esteemed judges for the inaugural Yale Hackathon (Y-Hack), to be held November 8th and 9th. Y-Hack brings together nearly 1,500 student hackers from colleges and universities across the nation to the Yale University campus for a 24-hour programming competition. Participants will receive technology briefings from industry leaders, such as Intel, Microsoft, Dropbox, and Prometheus, and will be "mentored" throughout the event by established coders from these companies and others. As a judge, Mr. Evans, will evaluate student projects based on four criteria: innovation, technical merit, pitch, and popularity. He will also award a separate, "Best use of HTSQL," prize to one talented entrant.
"I'm honored and excited to be a judge for Yale's first hackathon," said HTSQL and YAML creator, Clark Evans. "Our developers, analysts, and clients think HTSQL is transformative. It empowers them to securely interact with relational data over the Web in ways they previously wouldn't even attempt. So, it will be really fun to see how the students adapt it to their own novel applications."

HTSQL is a URI-based navigational query language and REST-ful Web gateway for relational databases that is human-readable and accessible to "accidental programmers," like business analysts and statisticians. HTSQL translates HTTP requests into SQL and returns the results in several useful formats, including HTML, CSV, and JSON, streamlining data access for Web applications, reporting, or analysis. HTSQL was developed by Prometheus, and is free to the public: http://htsql.org/.
