Prominent Michigan Accident Attorney Joumana Kayrouz Honored for her Humanitarian Work by Major Charitable Group
WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich., April 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Life for Relief and Development presented their Annual Humanitarian Award during a dinner fundraiser to prominent Michigan Accident Attorney Joumana Kayrouz in recognition of her work to help the needy.
Kayrouz has made significant donations to charitable causes in Michigan and in Lebanon to help people in need. This year, Kayrouz and her daughters Stephanie and Nathalie, established the Joumana Kayrouz & Daughters Foundation, which provides medical and financial relief to the needy families and children.
Life Fore Relief is a 501 ( c ) 3 charity that raises funds to help Muslims who are in need throughout the World. At the dinner, where Kayrouz spoke about her philanthropic work, said she is inspired by her religious faith and is "thankful to God."
"Life for Relief has done so much to help needy people, not just Muslims but Arabs and non-Arabs across the globe," Kayrouz said, noting that the group has brought awareness to the suffering of civilians in war-torn Syria.
"I am honored that they have recognized my own commitment to help people in need. I am grateful to God for my good fortune and I am inspired to share my successes with those in need."
Kayrouz was accompanied by one of her two daughters, Stephanie Shamma, who helps direct the Foundation.
"What we see in Syria is a real tragedy. I'm not speaking about the politics but about the suffering we are seeing across the entire country. Families, women, children everyone, regardless of race or religion who need help," Kayrouz said.
"I believe Life for Relief is sometimes the only resource that may be available to those who are suffering. We pray for the people of Syria and throughout the world who experience similar suffering."
The dinner was held at The Shanandoah Country Club in West Bloomfield and featured entertainment including a performance by renown pianist and Syrian activist Malek Jandali.
Stephanie Shamma presented a donation of $10,000 to Life for Relief during the dinner to express support for their charitable efforts.
Life for Relief was founded in 1992 following the humanitarian crisis that developed after the Iraqi war the previous year. They have raised more than $300 million in charitable donations.
Joumana Kayrouz was named a "Top Lawyer of the Year" for 2012 by DBusiness Magazine, the premier business publication of Detroit, in a survey of more than 18,000 Michigan lawyers.
Kayrouz also received the prestigious 2012 American Arab Chamber of Commerce (AACC) "Economic Bridge Builder of the Year Award" at their 20th Annual Banquet celebration.
She was named a "Presenting Sponsor" honored during the 50th Anniversary gala of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
In 2010 Kayrouz received the Trailblazer Award from the Lebanese American Club of Michigan (LACOM) during their 15th Annual dinner for her achievements in the legal field and for being an outstanding member of the Lebanese-American community.
The Kayrouz & Daughters Foundation is currently underwriting a special TV program in Lebanon that will showcase the challenges of needy people there and provide them with support.
The show is being broadcast on Lebanon's popular OTV (OTV.com.lb) and worldwide during the Easter holiday season which began Sunday March 31, the traditional date for the celebration of Easter among Catholics, and will continue through Sunday May 5, the date of the Orthodox Easter.
