Provo College Nursing Program Earns CCNE Accreditation
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education recognizes PC's Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree
PROVO, Utah, Oct. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Provo College, a leading provider of healthcare education in Utah, today announced that its Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) program has earned accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Commission ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing that operate in accordance with national nursing standards.
"The CCNE accreditation highlights our commitment to quality nursing education," said Provo College's Nursing Program Director, Margaret Erickson. "We are proud of our baccalaureate program, our high-quality facility and faculty, and most of all, of the difference our students and graduates are making in our communities."
The demand for registered nurses continue to rise, driven by an increased emphasis on preventive care, growing rates of chronic conditions like diabetes and obesity and demand for healthcare from the baby-boomers who are living longer, more active lives. The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of registered nurses to grow 16% from 2014-2024, faster than the average for all occupations.
Utah is working hard on increasing the level of education of its nursing workforce. In 2015 Provo College responded to the needs of healthcare employers by replacing the associate-level nursing program with the bachelor's degree program. In just 36 months, students can take courses online and on campus and earn the bachelor of science in nursing degree. There's currently no waiting lists or pre-requisite requirements. Registered nurses who begin their careers with baccalaureate degrees have tremendous advantages in terms of career and salary opportunities.
