CHICAGO, Dec. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fresh off a successful national launch, Public Good Software continues to make a strong impact on the community it calls home – Chicago. In its very first year, the benefit corporation has managed to raise over $1 million for almost 1,000 active nonprofits in Chicago alone.
For Giving Tuesday on December 1st, Public Good used its role as the official platform for Illinois' charitable contributions, raising 700% more than it did in 2014. Success stories poured in from organizations that benefitted from Public Good.
- L'Arche Chicago, a community where adults with intellectual disabilities live with other adults who share their lives in family-style homes, raised $17,000 through Public Good (compared to $2,000 in 2014) and is using the money to build a third community home in the Forest Hills area of Chicago.
- UCAN, one of Chicago's oldest social service organizations, raised money on Giving Tuesday for their "High-Risk Infant Program." One of the beneficiaries was 23-year-old Alexis and her daughter, Aaliyah, born with Down Syndrome, a tethered spinal cord and a heart defect. UCAN's program provides transportation; in-home support and referrals to other needed services such as counseling, evaluations and medical specialists.
- Delta Institute, a Chicago-based nonprofit working for environmental sustainability and economic development, was faced with a last-minute challenge when their own donation platform crashed on Giving Tuesday. Delta Institute redirected all donors to its page on publicgood.com and experienced its most successful Giving Tuesday ever.
- Chicago Youth Alliance for Climate Action (CYACA), a group of Chicago teens with a mission to drive community growth by addressing climate change, started the organization after the Alliance for Climate Education ended its Chicago program. The teens reached out to Public Good partner ELPC who began mentoring the new group. Public Good then opened its doors to CYACA and ELPC, offering free office space and helping with future events and initiatives.
