The 10 winning teams were awarded $10,000 and chosen to compete at the national level in two divisions: xTAX, short for "Extreme Tax," and xACT, short for "Extreme Accounting." In addition to developing and presenting solutions to real tax and accounting related issues, students will have the opportunity to connect with PwC professionals for a fun-filled, exciting two-day competition.
The five schools that will be represented at the national xACT finals January 3-4 in New York City are: University of Arizona, University of Mississippi, Southern Methodist University, Villanova University, and University of Washington.
The five schools that will be represented at the national xTAX finals January 24-25 in Washington, D.C., are: Baylor University, Binghamton University, Oklahoma State, Penn State University, and University of Wisconsin.
"The xTREME Games continues to increase students' exposure to professional services and the world of public accounting by connecting them with leaders in the industry," Alexa Hamill, US Campus Recruiting Leader. "Students gain valuable experience solving complex issues while developing critical skills needed in today's business environment."
xTREME is part of PwC's larger commitment to corporate responsibility and youth education. The program is approaching 35,000 participants since launching in 2002.
Since 2008, PwC has supported colleges and universities - and the students they educate - with more than $30 million in funding. The funds have been used for xTREME and a variety of other curriculum enrichment initiatives, such as the incorporation of IFRS into curriculum and faculty learning programs.
